About The Truth About TB
The Truth About TB website is part of a new programme to raise awareness about TB.
The Truth About TB programme brings together Primary Care Trusts (PCTs), Local Authorities (LAs) and the voluntary/third sector to raise awareness about TB among the people most vulnerable to the illness.
TB Alert developed The Truth About TB programme as the Department of Health’s lead partner in delivering the TB awareness raising objectives set out in the TB Action Plan (2004) and TB Commissioning Toolkit (2007).
Since 2008, TB Alert has been working with PCTs to encourage and support the development of relationships with the third sector, and local government, and to incorporate the social model of health – which goes beyond the clinical model to consider the wider socio-economic influences on health – into TB programmes.
We believe the best way to tackle TB is to link up with organisations that already work with people most likely to be affected by the illness. This is why, in 2010, TB Alert began to work with the third sector to build their knowledge of TB and to provide them with the skills and resources to develop their own local TB awareness programmes and to advocate for effective and well resourced TB services on behalf of the communities they serve.
Who is TB Alert?
TB Alert is the only specialist charity that tackles tuberculosis in the UK and internationally. We work to raise awareness of TB, especially among people most at risk of the illness, so that they recognise the symptoms, get diagnosed quickly and are cured. We work in the UK, as well as India and southern Africa. To find out more about the charity visit TB Alert's website.
